RIGHT NOW! Series:
From Art to Action: A Different Response to Wartime Sexual Violence

Wednesday, October 4, 4:30 pm, Allbritton 311

On June 12, 2015, the art installation “Thinking of You” displayed 5,000 dresses in the football stadium of Pristina, Kosovo, to honor the thousands of survivors of wartime rape. The documentary The Making of #ThinkingOfYou, produced by Anna Di Lellio and Fitim Shala, is a story of art and women activism to change the culture of isolation, resignation and shame that surrounds sexual violence in war.  Professor Anna Di Lellio will be speaking.

Prof. Anna Di Lellio is a sociologist and policy analyst, whose research focuses on nationalism, security, transitional justice and state-building in the Balkans. She teaches at the Graduate Program in International Relations, The New School for Public Engagement, and at the International Relations Program of New York University. Prof. Di Lellio received her doctorate in Sociology from Columbia University and her Master’s in Public Policy from the NYU Wagner School of Public Service.

She worked in Kosovo for some years, as political adviser to the Prime Minister; Media Commissioner under the aegis of the OSCE; and research analyst and advisor on the Kosovo Liberation Army program of reintegration for IOM and the United Nations Mission in Kosovo. Among her publications is the book The Battle of Kosovo 1389. An Albanian Epic (I.B. Tauris, 2009), published also in Albanian and Serbian, and the edited collection of essays, The Case for Kosova. Passage to Independence (Anthem, 2006). She is the producer of Thinking of You, a documentary on the making on the art installation by Alketa Xhafa Mripa, dedicated to the survivors of Kosovo wartime sexual violence. Prof. Di Lellio is the cofounder and managing director of the Kosovo Oral History Initiative. In 2015, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Merits by the President of the Republic of Kosovo.

International Education Posters — Submission Deadline: 10/15

The Fries Center for Global Studies (FCGS) is now accepting proposals for posters during International Education Week (November 13 – 17). Posters will be presented during lunch on Tuesday, November 14.

We invite students to submit a proposal to share their international experience — including experiences in the United States — to showcase research, internships, academic study, language acquisition, artistic endeavors, and independent work that has an international component. We hope this experience will allow students to connect with one another, to share their knowledge and experience and to grow personally, academically, and professionally through this experience.

The value of sharing what you know through a poster session can have a far-reaching impact. Because of the collaborative nature of this sessions and International Education Week, presenters often find that through the process of sharing their expertise they often gain new insights themselves. Being a presenter is also an excellent way to build your professional résumé and speaker profile. We hope you will consider participating and help fulfill our mission to support students in expanding international opportunities and experiences by sharing what you know with others.

TO SUBMIT PROPOSAL, PLEASE CLICK HERE

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: SUNDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2017 AT 11:59 PM EST.

2021’ers: Do the Honor Code Survey!

The Deans’ Office is collaborating with Prof. Rodriguez Mosquera of the Psychology Department on a study about Wesleyan’s Honor Code. This study focuses on students’ perspectives of the Honor Code, and your perspective as a first-year student is especially important for us since you completed a tutorial about it this summer.  Do you have 5 minutes to complete this anonymous survey?  It really is very short and you would help us a lot if you would complete it!

Here is the link to the survey: https://wesleyan.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0xNqucHZLztCfVb

Thanks much!  Best, Dean Brown
