Ring Family’s Israeli Film Festival–Avi Nesher’s “Past Life”–2/8 at 8 p.m.
On behalf of the Center for Jewish Studies, it is my pleasure to invite you to the second screening in the 11th Annual Ring Family Wesleyan University Israeli Film Festival on Thursday, February 8, at 8PM at the Goldsmith Family Cinema. At that time, Avi Nesher’s latest film, Past Life, will be screened and introduced by Marc Longenecker, Assistant Professor of Practice in Film Studies. Avi Nesher is one of the most accomplished and internationally renowned Israeli film directors and his films Turn Left at the End of the World, the Secrets and the Matchmaker have been screened at previous Israeli film festivals at Wesleyan University. His movie are always accomplished and well casted, however, his latest film, Past Life was described by Variety as his best film ever. (http://variety.com/2016/film/reviews/past-life-review-1201852775/). The film is 109 minutes, has English subtitles and was released in 2016.

Below is a short description of the film:
Inspired by true events, Past Life, tracks the daring 1977 trans-European odyssey of two sisters-one an introverted ambitious classical music composer, and the other a combative liberal magazine editor. As they try to unravel a disturbing wartime mystery that has cast a foreboding shadow on their entire lives, they realize that freedom from the shackles of the past requires painful sacrifices, as does the struggle to discover one’s unique voice.
The next film, Quiet Heart, will be screened on Thursday, February 15 at the Goldsmith Family Cinema at 8PM.

African Students Association’s Africa Week!
Tomorrow, Tuesday, November 28th, 2017 will kick off our first event with a film screening of Stories of Our Lives, which is a Kenyan film that was released in 2014 and created by The Nest Collective, a Nairobi-based arts collective. The film is an anthology of five short films dramatizing true stories of LGBT lives in Kenya. The screening will take place tomorrow in the Ring Family Performing Arts Hall at 7 pm We look forward to seeing you!
