Finals Write-In + Study Space! – 5/16

Join the Writing Workshop for our first ever Finals Write-In + Study Space! On Sunday, May 16th we’ll be in Tischler Hall (Exley 150) between 2-8pm. Stop by for the most productive afternoon of your finals season–and to make all this work a little less lonely. Writing Tutors will be available for drop-in sessions, and we’ll have plenty of free snacks and stationery to go around. Be one of the first 5 to RSVP and we’ll have a goodie bag for you to pick up on the day-of!

Senior Thesis Writing Retreat – 3/21

Join the Writing Workshop and fellow senior thesis writers at our final Senior Thesis Writing Retreat this Sunday, March 21! Pop into the Shapiro Center (116 Mt. Vernon St.) or Zoom (via our Slack) anytime between 1-4pm eastern for an afternoon of productivity, support, and snacks. We’ll treat the first five writers who RSVP to a smoothie/coffee on Sunday!

Writing Workshop Reopens on 2/22

The Writing Workshop is here for you this spring, whether you’re on campus or not! The Workshop officially opens on Monday, February 22nd. See our available appointments via “Writing Workshop Account” under the Academics bucket in WesPortal and come see a classmate trained to meet you at any part of your writing process.
Applications for the Writing Mentor program are open, too! Apply here by Thursday, February 18th at noon EST, and we’ll do our best to pair you with a Mentor to meet with each week throughout the spring semester. Bring a friend to one of our Zoom Info Sessions (RSVP/link here) to learn more about the program from current and past mentors and mentees–and to be entered into our raffle for a Wes T-shirt!

Stop by the “Before You Go” Resource Tent! – 11/18

Worried about working remotely for final exams and projects this year? We get it. “Before You Go” for the end of the semester, stop by the Labyrinth Tent this Wednesday (Nov. 18th) between 4:30-6:30pm to see what campus resources are still available for you as many of us leave campus! Enter a raffle just by coming to the event, and pick up a goodie bag while you’re there, too. The Writing Workshop, Presentation Studio, Library, Peer Advisors, Math Workshop, CAPS, and the Resource Center will all be there to give more information about the support they offer.

Continuing Writing Workshop Support for Senior Thesis Writers

The Writing Workshop’s support for senior thesis writers continues as we move toward the end of the semester! Apply for a Thesis Mentor by noon EST on December 9, and we’ll do our best to pair you with an experienced peer tutor who will meet with you biweekly throughout the spring to read drafts, provide accountability, and be your cheerleader.

Our second Thesis Writers Retreat is this Friday (November 13), so stop by the Labyrinth Tent in person or join via our Slack remotely between 1 – 4 p.m. for workshops on writing while researching and plenty of time to work and consult with Workshop staff. RSVP here. Our Wednesday night write-ins also continue through the end of the semester. Join us in Olin’s Devlin Room before the break or on the Slack anytime between 8 – 10 p.m. EST on Wednesdays.

  2. Register: Let the Writing Workshop team learn more about your writing!

  3. Make an Appointment: Click on any white square and fill out the form

  4. Meet: Return to the scheduler 5 minutes before your appointment starts, click on the gold box, and click to join the meeting

Writing Workshop Tutoring Resources Available

A Note from the Writing Workshop

The Writing Workshop will be holding online tutoring hours during reading period today, Friday, 5/8, tomorrow, Saturday, 5/9, and Sunday, 5/11. They are offering a range of times from 8am until 9pm, EST to try to accommodate as many students from across the globe as possible.

Online remote sessions are certainly different, but can be so very helpful to students as they navigate this new terrain of finals. Working with a peer can be grounding, and our tutors are trained and ready to meet students and help as much as they can in these difficult times. Whether they want to use video, audio, or simply the chat function, students can share their drafts and brainstorm together through our online tutoring software.

As always, students can make appointments by going to Wes Portal –>Academics –> Writing Workshop where you will be redirected to our online scheduling system. Please review this PDF for directions and screenshots to help you navigate the online appointment. You can also find this information on our website.

Preparing for Your Thesis Virtual Info Session

Friday, April 3, 2020, 3pm – 4pm, EST

Join representatives from the faculty, Office of the Registrar, Olin Library, the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and the Office of Academic Advancement/Class Deans to discuss how to prepare for pursuing a thesis next academic year.

The info session will be offered online through Zoom, and you will be emailed the session access information after you submit your RSVP: https://tinyurl.com/westhesis.

We understand not every student interested in the session will be available to participate at the designated time. The session will be recorded and posted online for students to access before the end of the semester.
